I can honestly say poetry isn’t my favorite literature, but I’ve written a lot of poetry – mostly free verse – and so I’m going to compile a poetry book for posterity if nothing else. Get it out there, and let it be seen. That’s my goal.
Because I’m ready to open up about my poetry, I’ll start publishing some of it here as I work on the collection.
This was written on March 12, 1984. It is the oldest of my poems that I still have a record of. I may find others as time goes on. I’m still looking through my files and journals for more lost poems. I also have a lot of songs that can be included – but I have almost 50 poems collected right now, using Scrivener.
Remember
What are the important things
To remember every day?
To live with love and laughter,
To be reverent and to pray,
To try to see what can be done
To ease anothers’ pain,
To know that warmth and sunshine
Will follow every rain.
What this could mean for you and me
Is to turn us toward that light,
That shines within us, leading us,
To do that which is right.
